FIVE THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW BEFORE GETTING A KERATIN TREATMENT
Girls always dream of straight and frizz-free hair and even curly hair look magical sometimes, but taking care of them is a different story as a whole. Most of the girls for getting manageable hair choose among the options available like rebounding, smoothening, straightening but in the recent times, keratin treatment has become a new sensation among females. but there are few things about keratin treatment that must be understood and taken into consideration before making a big decision!
The keratin treatment known for making hair smoother & shinier does not work the same for every hair type. This treatment proves to be more beneficial to those with curly or frizzy hair in comparison to those who already have straight & fine hair.
Depending upon your hair quality and texture, ask your stylist to give you the right treatment
And those who have thin hair should avoid the treatment.
2. UNDERSTAND WHAT YOU’RE ASKING FOR
With so many hair treatments available in the beauty industry. Hair stylists are using different names of their makes – all of them are extremely confusing.
You need to confirm at the salon which treatment are you actually looking for. You can either go for the traditional keratin treatment which really straightens your hair or you could go for smoothening which only de-frizzes the hair and adds shine. You can also opt for rebounding which is very similar to the keratin treatment and also adds artificial shine.
Keratin is a protein which is beneficial for your skin, hair, and nails. It gets reduced with age and exposure to dirt and chemicals. This is why all hair treatments are named under the keratin branch but keratin is not the actual chemical which causes straightening of hair.
Instead, there is a formaldehyde-releasing solution which keeps on saturating the hair for 20 minutes coats each hair strand, before you blow-dry it and methodically flat-iron it. It lasts up to 3-5 months.
It is very important for you to understand that formaldehyde is a potential carcinogen for humans and all those hair stylists or hair-care salons who claims that their keratin treatment is formaldehyde-free are lying. Formaldehyde is a gas, so it can obviously not be present in a keratin treatment but the keratin treatment could contain chemicals like methylene glycol, formalin, methanol- ingredients which release formaldehyde when heated or mixed with water.
You can easily go for the keratin treatment if you’re getting it done only once or twice in a year.
4. LEARN TO LEAVE YOUR HAIR ALONE
After you get the keratin treatment done, you’re not allowed to touch your hair often or put any clip or hair tie or even wash it for the next three days. So, you have to leave your hair alone. At the same time, you have to take care of them properly so that it should not create any irritation.
5. CHANGE YOUR HAIR CARE ROUTINE
After you get the keratin treatment done, you cannot go back to your normal hair-care routine. You will need to switch to the shampoo and conditioner recommended by your hair stylist and should follow the same.
You’ll also have to stay away from chlorinated water like going to the beach and swimming pools. Then only your hair will look straight, silky & shiny as you want.
